Omanyala Advances to 100m Semi-Finals with Ease at Paris Olympics

NAIROBI — Ferdinand Omanyala, Africa’s premier sprinter, effortlessly secured his place in the semi-finals of the 100m event at the Paris Olympic Games with a commanding heat victory in 10.08 seconds.

Arriving at Stade de France as the second-fastest runner in the world this season, Omanyala demonstrated why he is considered a strong contender for a medal. His performance was both strategic and assured, as he controlled the race from start to finish.

Reflecting on his heat, Omanyala remarked, “We are in a championship you don’t want to burn yourself out. Today was just about enjoying it, introducing yourself to the world and now, tomorrow is where the work is at.”

Looking ahead to the semi-finals, Omanyala expressed confidence, saying, “Now I feel like I haven’t run. Tomorrow I will come in fresh and hope for a good race.”

The 28-year-old Kenyan athlete displayed tactical acumen by accelerating in the final 50 meters, after a strong start from the blocks. With qualification secured, he eased up as he approached the finish line, conserving energy for the upcoming semi-final on Sunday.

In other developments, Kenyan runner Vivian Chebet joined compatriots Mary Moraa and Lilian Odira in the 800m semi-finals. Chebet advanced by finishing second in the repechage round. Having originally placed fifth in the preliminary heats, she secured her semi-final spot with a time of 1:59.31. The race was narrowly won by Germany’s Majtie Kolberg, who finished in 1:59.08.
