Mahama Promises Full Cabinet Announcement in Two Weeks

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the public that his complete cabinet will be revealed within the next 14 days, addressing growing concerns over the delay in appointing his full team.

Mahama’s remarks came in response to criticism from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who had questioned the President’s pace in making ministerial appointments. Afenyo-Markin described the process as “tot-tot,” suggesting it was disorganised and slow.

Speaking on January 10 at a National Muslim prayer and thanksgiving service at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, Mahama moved to reassure the public, emphasising that the formation of the new government was progressing steadily. He confirmed that the remaining appointments, including ministers and other key officials, would be finalised soon.

“Government is being formed, ministers will be appointed, and other officials will follow,” Mahama stated. “As I’ve mentioned before, we will have our full cabinet in 14 days.”

He encouraged the supporters of his National Democratic Congress (NDC) party to be patient, noting that they would soon be able to approach the relevant ministers to address any concerns. “If you have any issues, consult any of the ministers, and it will be resolved,” he said, urging restraint during the transition period.

Mahama also cautioned against comparisons with the early days of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, which took office in 2017. “Many have pointed out that the same criticism was levelled when the NPP came into power in 2017,” he remarked. “And that is why Ghanaians voted them out. We must not replicate the mistakes they made.”

The President stressed the importance of maintaining discipline and a sense of order in the transition, appealing to NDC supporters to remain calm and not resort to actions that might tarnish the government’s image. He also highlighted the importance of unity within the party and the country as they move forward with the formation of a new administration.

The delay in the announcement of the full cabinet has been a subject of ongoing political debate, with critics calling for faster action. However, Mahama’s latest comments suggest that the process is nearing completion, and the public can expect further clarity in the coming weeks.
