Jamie Foxx Faces Legal Battle Over Alleged 2015 Sexual Assault at New York Bar

Jamie Foxx Faces Legal Battle Over Alleged 2015 Sexual Assault at New York Bar

Renowned actor and musician Jamie Foxx is embroiled in a legal dispute following allegations of sexual assault at a New York rooftop bar in 2015. The accuser, identified as Jane Doe, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, recounting a distressing encounter at the Catch NYC rooftop lounge.

In the legal filing, Doe claims that Foxx, accompanied by bar owner Mark Birnbaum, engaged in inappropriate behavior by leading her to a secluded area, where he allegedly touched her against her will. The suit details that after a photo request from Doe’s friend, Foxx complimented the plaintiff, making remarks about her physique and scent, likening her appearance to that of actress Gabrielle Union.

Allegations include Foxx allegedly groping the woman’s breasts and, disturbingly, intruding into intimate areas. The suit contends that a security guard witnessed the incident but took no action. The unwanted contact reportedly ceased when the woman’s friend intervened.

Foxx’s spokesperson vehemently denies the allegations, asserting that a similar lawsuit was filed in 2020, only to be swiftly dismissed. The spokesperson contends that the claims lack credibility and vows to pursue legal action against the accuser for what they term a “frivolous” lawsuit.

The legal action, filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, seeks compensation for the emotional toll endured by the plaintiff, including pain, suffering, anxiety, and humiliation. The lawsuit also implicates Birnbaum and Catch NYC, accusing them of enabling the assault and failing to adequately supervise their staff.

In response to Foxx’s denial, Michael S. Lamonsoff, the plaintiff’s attorney, rebuffed the actor’s claims, emphasizing the significance of the recently enacted Adult Survivors Act. Lamonsoff argued against a restricted claim window, asserting that there should be no statute of limitations for sexual assault cases, especially when involving individuals exploiting their celebrity status.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the allegations against Foxx add to the broader societal conversation surrounding accountability and the consequences of alleged misconduct, with the legal process set to determine the veracity of the claims.
