Travis Scott Arrested in Miami Following Yacht Altercation

Travis Scott, the acclaimed American rapper, has been arrested in Miami on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing following a heated argument on a boat. The incident occurred at Miami Beach Marina at approximately 01:45 local time on Thursday, as confirmed by official records.

An arrest report from the Miami Beach Police Department, obtained by BBC Newsbeat, reveals that officers were summoned to the marina after reports of a fight on a yacht. The 33-year-old rapper, identified by his real name, Jacques Bermon Webster, was taken into custody according to the Miami-Dade County Corrections Department’s website.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed Scott shouting at individuals on the vessel. The report indicates that officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on Scott’s breath. Despite being instructed to leave the dock, Scott initially complied but continued to yell obscenities at the yacht’s occupants as he walked away.

However, just five minutes later, Scott was seen returning to the area and attempting to reboard the yacht. According to the report, when officers confronted him, he ignored their commands and began acting erratically, disturbing local residents with his shouting. This behavior led to his subsequent arrest.

Following the incident, Scott reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol, remarking, “It’s Miami.” His legal representative, Bradford Cohen, released a statement on Thursday addressing the situation: “Mr. Scott was briefly detained due to a misunderstanding. There was absolutely no physical altercation involved, and we thank the authorities for working with us towards a swift and amicable resolution.”

Travis Scott, a 10-time Grammy Award nominee, is recognized as one of the most influential figures in hip-hop today. He shares two children with his former partner, Kylie Jenner. The rapper is gearing up for his European tour, which is set to kick off in the Netherlands on June 28, with performances scheduled in London and at Manchester’s Co-op Live venue on July 13.

This recent arrest adds to a series of notable incidents in Scott’s career. In 2021, ten fans tragically lost their lives during a crowd surge at his Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas. While Scott did not face criminal charges, he remains entangled in civil lawsuits alleging negligence by the event’s organizers.

Despite these controversies, Scott continues to achieve significant milestones in the music industry. Last year, he celebrated his first UK number one album with “Utopia,” following the cancellation of a planned performance in front of Egypt’s pyramids.

As Travis Scott prepares for his upcoming tour, fans and industry observers will be keenly watching how these latest developments unfold.
